Living by My Values (and vibes)
I promised unfiltered and real commentary on my journey towards a multi-income life, and naturally, this means that when things don’t go to plan I still have to share.
Here is the perfect example of how something which seemed a good idea on paper, actually turned out to feel like a millstone around my neck and cost me more than I earned
When I first built this website I included the following:
- Ghostwriting memoirs
- The Memoir Maker – my web app
- Curated (make up and skincare, formerly Younique)
- Freedom (InteleTravel/PlanNet – basically a travel agency and network marketing combo)
About a month ago I added Tropic Skincare (see From Memoir Maker to Moisturiser) a decision taken after seeing for myself how fantastic the products are, and how Tropics “Infinite Purpose” matches so well with my own values.
Initially I thought I would work Curated and Tropic side by side BUT that was taken out of my hands when I fell below the threshold of target earnings for Curated and was therefore axed (brutal right… and something Tropic don’t do!). Cue reworking the website to remove all reference to Curated/Younique.
Then this week I sat and looked at the Freedom section and realised that — despite loving to travel and not being able to do enough of it because I’m skint — I just didn’t have the “feels” for that business. It didn’t sit well with me. I WAS a travel agent many, many moons ago and know just how important it is to get a travel booking spot on, the thought of something going wrong with something I booked filled me with unease… so I wasn’t promoting that business and therefore not earning.
The other side of that business, PlanNet, is pure and simple network marketing — recruit people under you and earn from them — that strand of it is actually where the real money is to be made and, to be honest, it made me feel icky.
Fundamentally, it seems I can only work with and for things that match my vibes, my values, and my personality. My own stuff – ghostwriting and The Memoir Maker – tick those boxes, as does Tropic. So, earlier this week I cancelled my membership of both the travel and networking marketing add on, and rejigged the website (again!) to remove all reference to them.
And, you know what?
I feel so much better for doing so.
All told the fees for that unused business come in at around £250, not a lot for some people, but for me as I build my mini empire, that is a lot to lose. I don’t regret taking the chance, but I am annoyed that I didn’t listen to my inner voice earlier.
Lessons learned.
Again!
